Five tips to get your hair ready for summer

Summer is the time of year when our hair suffers the most., by exposure to the sun, the salt in the sea water or the chlorine in the swimming pool. Our hair is exposed to a myriad of external aggressions that can deteriorate it, making it look lifeless, drier, weak, brittle and dull, and it can sometimes cause it to fall out. For this reason, Dr. Carlos Portinha, chief clinical officer from Insparya, makes a series of recommendations that will allow us to reduce the damage and negative effects of summer, which affect both the hair and the scalp.

These are according to Dr. Portinha the definitive tips you should not ignore

  • Hydration. Long-term exposure to the sun, chlorine in swimming pools or sea salt makes our hair look drier and lack vitality. To minimize these effects as much as possible, Dr. Portinha that “hydrating the hair during the summer is a fundamental aspect and it is necessary to use products that improve the structure of the hair and help restore the usual shine of our hair. ” Likewise, to continue to reduce these effects , in addition to adequate hydration, it is necessary to use sunscreen regularly. In this way we can protect the scalp from sun exposure, help moisturize it and restore the hair fibres.
  • Wash and dry the scalp. Another of the most important aspects to protect the hair in the summer season is to wash it correctly both before and after exposing the hair to the sun, chlorine or salt; like drying when you’re done. According to Dr. Carlos Portinha, it is necessary to soak the hair in water before entering the pool, so that the hair absorbs less water from it and is therefore less exposed to substances such as chlorine and anti-algae agents. In addition, he recommends that after the bath, “washing the hair with warm or fresh water, because using hot water tends to dry out the hair and can become damaging to the hair proteins.” Seawater, for its part, contains a lot of mineral salts and proteins that have a positive effect on the hair and scalp, but an excess of salt can damage the hair. So it is very important that you wash your hair well with fresh water after a sea bath to remove excess salt that has accumulated in the hair. When washing, it is important to use moisturizing masks and shampoos, such as Prevent HA Insparya, which, because it contains hyaluronic acid, provides effective hydration of the entire hair fiber. The way we dry the scalp is also very determinative, and while the heat makes it more comfortable to let the hair air dry, using a blow dryer at a distance and with cold or slightly hot air is the best alternative. †
  • To feed. Proper food choice is always an excellent treatment for the hair. During the summer “it is important not to forget foods such as sardines, mackerel or walnuts, which are rich in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, as vitamin C improves circulation in the scalp. Other foods such as carrot, pumpkin, peach and apricot, whose nutritious carotenoids are also crucial for preventing dandruff and hair loss. And, of course, drinking plenty of water is essential to hydrate the hair’s internal structure,” says the doctor.
  • Use of hats and caps. Using hats and caps is also very helpful as they help us protect our hair from the sun’s rays. However, you should also not overuse it as the scalp also needs good ventilation and it can be harmful.
  • Avoid using dyes. Dyes generally damage hair, so going there in the summer isn’t the best decision, given the exposure of our hair at the moment. As the doctor points out, “after using a dye, the hair is at its most fragile point”. It is therefore advisable to avoid the pool for at least a week to allow the chemical compounds to settle and thus avoid any chemical reaction with chlorine and other products that can lead to greening of the hair, premature discoloration, drying and breakage. †

Despite following all recommendations to minimize hair damage this season, there are hair treatments that, when combined with others, can be the best solution and hair protection. The ideal would be to perform a combined therapy of 10 sessions of Mesohair Insparya and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) alternating. It is so effective because, thanks to the Mesohair Insparya treatment, it is about fighting short-term hair loss and nourishing the hair, and together with the PRP that regenerates and prevents hair aging, it is possible to prolong the result and improve both therapies .
