What to eat at different stages of the menstrual cycle?

The menstrual cycle is associated with stress and pain, occurring only once a month. There are actually four phases of the cycle, and in each of them the body rebuilds and changes and we become particularly sensitive. To maintain balance and health during your menstrual period, you need to eat a healthy and balanced diet. We tell you which foods you should eat at different stages of the cycle.

The first stage is follicular. It begins immediately after menstruation and lasts 12-14 days. During this time, follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormones are produced. They stimulate egg growth and estrogen production so we become energetic and productive.

To prepare the body for the ovulation process, nutritionists recommend consuming foods containing phytoestrogens (they regulate the menstrual cycle). Such compounds are found in vegetables (carrots, cabbage, zucchini), fruits (pomegranates, plums, avocados), legumes (soybeans, chickpeas, beans) and grains (corn, oats, wheat).

The second stage is ovulation. It begins after the follicular one and lasts five days. During this period, the body has already formed eggs and is ready for fertilization. We become more flirty, sociable and our skin shines. Due to the excess of follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormones, girls may experience cramps in the chest and abdomen.

During this period, it is important to consume foods containing fiber (supports intestinal microflora), zinc (balances hormone levels, increases libido) and magnesium (supports the neurovascular system). They are found in nuts, beans, shellfish and green leafy vegetables.

luteal phase

The third phase is the luteal phase. It is the longest period, which starts 10-12 days before menstruation and lasts for two weeks. This stage is accompanied by fatigue, rash and bloating. If fertilization occurs during ovulation, the body prepares for pregnancy. Otherwise, the uterine wall will weaken and cause pain.

To ease your menstrual period, you should take vitamin D (it helps the immune system fight infections). It is found in fish, egg yolk and dairy products. Don’t forget about B6, found in grains and legumes, which regulates the excitability of the nervous system. Omega No. 3 (reduces depression) – rich in nuts, broccoli and sesame are full of omega fatty acids. By the way, you don’t need to limit yourself to desserts; Sugar will give you energy.

Menstrual period is the last period of the menstrual cycle. Then you want to lie down and do nothing. It takes three to eight days, with an average of five. The uterine mucosa ruptures, bleeding and pain begin.

At this stage, it is better to give up heavy training and consume more foods rich in vitamin B12 (yoghurt, turkey, chicken), which form blood cells. Do not forget about vitamin C (pepper, eggplant, mango, strawberry), it improves the natural properties of the skin. Also eat tofu, red meat and beans: they contain iron, which supports energy levels, the immune system and body temperature.

It is important to always remember that you are beautiful. To make your menstrual cycle as painless as possible, take care of your body and consult a doctor if necessary.
