Leilah (pictured above) asked colorist Joanna Pinto for lighter hair.

Leilah walked into the salon wanting a bright, fresh look for summer, and Joanna explained exactly how she made Leilah’s dreams come true. “Leilah came here wanting a change. She didn’t want something high maintenance, but she wanted something different. I suggested continuing with the balayage look, but with bolder, brighter pieces. The key to this look is ‘positioning’,” Joanna revealed.

Foilyage is similar to balayage but is “isolated in foil”.

The technique Joanna used was foliage. “This is where the lightener is applied to the hair like a traditional balayage, but just isolated in foil,” she explained. “The pieces were cut and spaced just enough to create this multi-tonal look. In the sink, a root gloss was used to blend and add that richness to the base, and finally, a butter gloss was used throughout the strands to add a one-of-a-kind shine. I personally love finishing all my color work with a gloss – think of it as a top coat on a manicure.

After dyeing her hair, Leilah saw Jerome Lordet, who cut her hair two inches shorter and styled it into ringlets using a one-inch flat iron.

Once Leilah finished dyeing her hair, it was time for a cut and style, at which point Jerome stepped in and worked his magic. Jerome detailed that she “upped the length to about two inches and added some long layers to give it more movement and fullness, some face framing and also did some draped bangs to create sexiness around the face.” Once that was done, Jerome added “a little volumizer to her hair, then blow-dried her hair with a one-inch round brush to give it a little wave and a tousled natural look with volume.”
