Goodbye mask, hello lips! Makeup artist tips to show off red lips again

End of inner masks. After almost two years of hiding our face, on Wednesday April 20 we said goodbye to this accessory that has been with us since May 21, 2020. With the end of the masks, we rediscover the lower part of the face. The lips will become visible again and will be filled with color after months behind the mask. “The skin of the lip has three layers of cells, while the rest of the skin of the face has up to 16 layers. This means that external agents affect the lip area much more than the rest of the face. It is also a much more sensitive area as it does not contain melanin or sebaceous glands that help regulate and balance. Hence the need to moisturize them continuously,” explains professional make-up artist Cristina Lobato. The expert tells us how to take care of the lips and what to do to always look perfect. Attention!

When removing the mask, we are going to avoid the two agents that cause the lip to dry out more:

  • temperature changes: With the mask, the body temperature rises and the whole area generates moisture that greatly affects the lip in terms of dryness and the appearance of pimples.
  • friction generated by the mask on the lips.

How do we take care of our lips with a mask after so much time?

In the morning routine, before applying lipstick:

  • Apply a nourishing product before starting the make-up so that the lips are nourished and perfectly nourished before applying the lipstick.
  • Then use a first of lips that softens, conditions and prepares the lip for later color application.

In the night routine:

  1. Scrub with specific lip scrubs or make your own homemade scrub. Mix pure shea butter with ground panela and you can exfoliate while nourishing and conditioning the lip.
  2. Apply a restorative balm that nourishes the lip well. The makeup artist recommends products such as: Biopel one of both purelan for very dehydrated lips as they regenerate cracks and nourish deeply.

A red for every skin type

On the market there is a wide variety of shades of red, many textures and different finishes. You just need to find the color red that suits you best. It is a shade that is suitable for all skin and hair types. In addition, it can be used from young to old, adapting the shades to each stage of your life.

How do you hit your ideal red? Cristina Lobato gives us her best tips.

  • light skin: the most favored reds are those with an orange base, which are usually coral or deep red.
  • dark skins: the red shades that suit them best are the intense ones with a violet or cherry base, for example burgundy or crimson are the best allies to improve your skin tone.

Remember that red tones, with more coverage, help to correct the lip† With the nude shades, the natural shape of the lip is more intuitive, but with the red you cover completely, helping to create lines and corrective effects. For example, it is easier to accentuate Cupid’s bow with red lipstick.
