Russian automaker AvtoVAZ is finishing preparations to launch serial production of the LADA Azimut crossover in the coming weeks following an extensive development and testing program.
The development campaign included more than 7,220 individual tests and over 1.5 million equivalent kilometers of mileage. AvtoVAZ noted that engineers evaluated both the complete vehicle and its individual systems and components throughout the trial period.
To carry out the physical evaluations, the carmaker utilized 370 equivalent test vehicles. Engineers complemented physical road trials with 1,050 digital checks and conducted more than 1,000 engineering calculations using virtual computer modeling.
Engineers focused significant attention on the powertrain and transmission systems. Special test benches logged more than 30,000 engine hours on the propulsion units to verify mechanical durability under heavy stress before approving the design for assembly.
Design updates and safety testing
A total of 996 new and upgraded components were developed specifically for the LADA Azimut during the preparation process. Hundreds of specialists worked on the crossover project, and the vehicle is currently undergoing final settings and checks before entering the main assembly line.
AvtoVAZ also evaluated the vehicle for passive safety performance. The testing program included a side pole crash test, which is recognized as one of the most demanding structural assessments for vehicle body integrity. Side pole impacts test structural rigidity and cabin intrusion during severe lateral collisions. Following the trial, the automaker reported a high level of protection for the driver.
To perform additional reliability checks, engineers employed a new laboratory vibration rig. Multi-axis shaker tables allow technicians to simulate a wide range of road and off-road loads under controlled conditions, accelerating structural endurance testing.
AvtoVAZ is Russia's largest automobile manufacturer, best known for producing the Lada brand of passenger cars. Crossovers combine passenger car chassis design with elevated ground clearance and hatchback utility. Serial production of the LADA Azimut is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
