The team behind the film Anora and director Sean Baker are celebrating a complete victory after winning five Oscar sculptures at the Film Academy awards. The film took home the top prize for Best Film alongside major category wins.
In addition to Best Film, the movie earned awards for Best Director for Sean Baker, Best Actress for Mikey Madison, Best Screenplay, and Best Installation. Russian actor Yura Borisov, who contended for the best male role award, did not win the prize. However, during the ceremony, Robert Dauni Jr. announced from the stage that Borisov had a great future and had entered the Huminago League.
Guild awards and statistics
Earlier, Anora won the Best Film category at the Critics Selection Awards 2025. The picture also secured main awards from the two most influential guilds in the United States, the PGA Awards and the DGA Awards.
Those guild victories provided a strong statistical foundation for the Academy Awards success. Data shows that 19 of the last 22 DGA award winners went on to win the Oscar for best directing, while 25 of the last 34 producer guild winners captured the Oscar for Best Film.
