Zendaya described Tom Holland as her best friend at the London premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, telling MTV UK it is a privilege to grow alongside him both personally and professionally.
When asked whether there was someone in the industry she felt she had grown up with over the years, the 29-year-old did not hesitate to name her fiancé. She said Tom was of course her best friend, that being able to make films with him was a privilege, and that she loved evolving together and watching him — describing him simply as the best.
The couple first met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, when both were cast in the roles of MJ and Peter Parker. For several years they insisted they were only friends, despite persistent rumours, until they were photographed kissing in a car in July 2021, effectively confirming their relationship.
The two actors have chosen to keep their personal life largely out of the spotlight. In early 2025, Zendaya sparked engagement rumours when she appeared at the Golden Globes wearing a diamond ring on her left hand. The engagement was confirmed less than 24 hours later.
Holland has also spoken publicly about Zendaya in recent interviews. In one British podcast appearance he referred to her as his wife. In a separate statement he said she was the person who gives him the most peace.
The pair now star together again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, returning to the franchise where both their professional and personal journeys began.
