Disney and Marvel Studios have cancelled the superhero television series Wonder Man while a second season was in active development, according to show writer Andrew Guest.
Guest revealed the decision in a social media post, explaining that executives inside Disney and Marvel decided that continuing the project no longer made sense for the companies, reversing a stance held just months earlier.
Abrupt halt to production plans
The cancellation came suddenly as prep work for the new season was already under way. Guest explained that writers were scheduled to begin work this month, with principal photography planned for early 2027. Contracts had already been signed and team schedules cleared before management chose to end the show.
Guest stated that he had completed the script for the season two premiere and created a general plot outline for the entire season. He said that everyone involved adored working on the series and was enthusiastic about continuing, adding that the team was very pleased with the material created for the upcoming run.
Show premise and critical ratings
Wonder Man premiered in late January and centers on Hollywood actor Simon Williams, who gains extraordinary abilities following exposure to ionic radiation. Williams must balance his ongoing career in the film industry with the demands of his superhero life while keeping his newfound superpowers hidden from the public.
The series is based on the long-standing Marvel Comics character. Upon its debut, the show won praise from both professional reviewers and general audiences. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 91 percent freshness score from critics and an 87 percent rating from users.
Despite an earlier announcement that a second season would go forward, production was abruptly halted. Guest concluded his post by thanking fans for their warm reception of the show and expressing hope that he may be able to return to the character in the future.
