Vanessa Bryant shared a touching birthday tribute on Sunday to her late husband Kobe Bryant on what would have been the NBA icon's 48th birthday.

The 44-year-old socialite, who boasts 15.2 million Instagram followers, posted a playful photograph showing the late basketball star sitting in her lap on a lawn chair. "Happy birthday, baby. I love you so much," she wrote in the caption.

Bryant, born Cornejo, received supportive comments from famous friends including David Beckham, Kris Jenner, Rachel Zoe, Gabrielle Union, Tina Knowles, La La Anthony, Russell Wilson, Kimora Lee Simmons and Michael Phelps. The couple's eldest daughter, 23-year-old Natalia Bryant, also left a red heart emoji under her mother's post.

Natalia also posted a childhood snapshot of herself standing beside her father on her Instagram stories on Sunday, captioning the picture, "Happy birthday Daddy." Kobe Bryant, a native of Philadelphia, is also survived by seven-year-old daughter Capri and nine-year-old daughter Bianka.

Tragic Loss and Legal Battle

Kobe Bryant and the couple's 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant, tragically died alongside seven others in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, in January 2020. The former basketball star was 41 years old at the time of the fatal accident.

In 2023, Vanessa Bryant and her daughters were awarded a $28.8 million settlement from Los Angeles County after winning a two-week invasion of privacy trial in 2022. The lawsuit stemmed from eight Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies taking cell phone photos of Kobe Bryant and the eight other crash victims at the site, which were then shared with friends, family and strangers at a bar.

The high school sweethearts were married for 19 years. Vanessa Bryant, a native of Orange County, filed for divorce in 2011 before withdrawing the legal documents in 2013. A representative for Bryant did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Charity Outreach and Youth Showcase

On Sunday, the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation gifted onesies and special gear to newborn patients at the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Court inside Hoag Hospital Newport Beach. Each gift carried a message of inspiration: "May you grow with the belief Kobe and Gianna held dear: that with love, hard work and courage, anything is possible."

Vanessa Bryant also made an appearance at the Mamba Invitational, a high school basketball showcase held August 8-9 at L.A. LIVE at Peacock Place. The foundation provides funding and athletic opportunities for youth sports programs.

Tributes Across Basketball

The NBA honored the iconic player on his posthumous birthday with an official portrait captioned, "Remembering Kobe 8.23.78." The Los Angeles Lakers, where Bryant played his entire 20-year professional career, posted two social media messages writing: "Leave the game better than you found it. And when it comes time for you to leave, leave a legend."

They wrote: 'Leave the game better than you found it. And when it comes time for you to leave, leave a legend.'

Former Lakers teammate Pau Gasol tweeted a video of Bryant, writing, "As a teammate, as an opponent at times and, more importantly, as a brother, always unconditional and eternal love. Happy birthday brother, miss you." Ex-Laker Caron Butler posted a picture of a birthday cake for the six-foot-six athlete captioned, "Happy birthday Bean..." Retired Lakers legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson, who never played with Kobe, also shared a message, writing, "I want to wish a happy heavenly birthday to Kobe Bryant!"
