The franchisingA comedy pilot for HBO that offers a tongue-in-cheek look at the making of superhero films has found its cast.
Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci’s project featured Billy Magnussen, Jessica Hynes, Darren Goldstein, Lolly Adefope and Isaac Powell as series regulars, and Daniel Brühl and Richard E. Grant as recurring guest stars.
The franchising follows a team of hopefuls trapped in the dysfunctional, no-nonsense, happy-go-lucky hellscape of the franchise superhero films. When they finally make it, they must ask themselves one question: is this Hollywood’s new dawn or cinema’s last stand? Is it a dream factory or a chemical factory?
The series comes from the mind of Mendes and marks the rich in light and 1917 Helmer’s first directorial project in the US.
Magnussen (made for love) plays Adam, Hynes (W1A) plays Steph, Goldstein (osark) plays Pat, Adefope (ghosts) are Day and Powell (West side story) plays Peter, while Brühl (Incredible bastards) are Eric and Grant (Me and Withnail) is Peter.
The franchising is produced by Iannucci through his Dundee Productions banner and Mendes through his All3Media-backed production company Neal Street Productions. Mendes, de american beauty The Oscar winner who came up with the idea will also direct.
Jon Brown has been hired as showrunner, wrote the pilot and will produce alongside Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, Julie Pastor, Keith Akushie, Marina Hyde and Jim Kleverweis.
