World Cup ratings: France vs Poland sets new record for TF1

With another victory at the World Cup, this time with Poland in the round of 16, the French national soccer team led broadcaster TF1 to another record rating for the year. An average of 14.3 million viewers tuned in to watch Lesson Blues recorded a 3-1 victory on Sunday from 16:00 local time. This is the best result for all channels in 2022 and since July 2021. The audience share was 68.9%.

There was a peak of 17.4 million viewers during the game, which saw Olivier Giroud become France’s all-time leading goalscorer (beating Thierry Henry’s record) with 52 in 117 games. Forward prodigy Kylian Mbappé took his career World Cup tally to nine, five of which have already appeared at the tournament.

The figures for TF1 were well above those of the previous French games in Qatar. And by comparison, in 2018, when France won the tournament, Argentina’s defeat in the round of 16 attracted 12.6 million viewers, including at 4pm on the weekend.

Didier Deschamps’ team face England next Saturday at 20:00 CET. In turn, England’s win over Senegal on Sunday night was watched by 7 million people in France, representing 28.3% of viewers, from 8pm BST.

Today we continue with Japan vs. Croatia and Brazil vs. South Korea. The quarter-finals begin on Friday with the Netherlands taking on Argentina.

TF1 has rights to the 28 biggest games, while BeIn Sports controls them all but does not share reviews.
