Emma Sidi has taken on the role of broadcaster and MacTaggart lecturer Emily Maitlis in the upcoming Channel 4 satire Prince Andrew: The Musical.
Maitlis’ bombshell BBC interview continues news evening with Prince Andrew, in which the royal family denied friendship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and made several eyebrow-raising statements, led to a cascade of events that led to his resignation from royal service.
Maitlis has since left the BBC and was blamed for a stormy MacTaggart at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival. The musical special features a new version of her interview with Prince Andrew featuring rising British comedy star Sidi (star struck, please love me) plays the journalist.
Kieran Hodgson (Two doors down), who wrote the show along with the music with Freddie Tapner, plays the king and will focus on events, relationships and controversies in his life.
Another important cast announced today is Munya Chawawa (teacher, Race for Britain) as Prince Charles and Jenny Bede as Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
Also cast is Joe Wilkinson (Sex education, After life, The Cockfields) as a newspaper; Harry Enfield (Harry Enfield and Friends) as Prime Minister Tony Blair and Baga Chipz (RuPaul’s Drag Race UK) as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Hat Trick Productions makes Prince Andrew: The Musical, with Adam Reeve as producer and Stu Mather and Jimmy Mulville as executive producers. Hodgson is an associate producer.
The show premiered at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August.
