Were you scared doing some of these iconic dances in these legendary movies?
Derek Hough: Absolute. I guess that was part of the time frame we had. They’ve had months to prepare and work with these films, orchestras and stages, that’s all, and we took this 10-day challenge. We didn’t want to just create them from scratch. We wanted to rethink them a bit, so we don’t literally recreate them. This is a kind of greeting to them. It was so much fun and great people came aboard. We worked together and it was great.

Ten days?! Do you dance more? It would be a lot for one!
Derek Hough: There were days when we literally had to make a piece in half a day. You’re like, “Oh my God.” It was definitely a mission, but it was a great honor and a lot of fun. we met Baz Luhrmannwho directed Moulin Rouge!and of course Kenny Ortegahe choreographed Dirty DanceAnd Rob Marshallwho directed Chicago and it won an Oscar for it. have Ariana DeBoseCharlie D’Amelio… I find it very exciting for people to see Charli D’Amelio because they know her from TikTok but they haven’t seen a dance like this from her yet. We spent very little time with him but at the same time he asked her, “Hey, do you mind if I switch to coach mode now?” I asked. And she said: “Yes, absolutely”. So when I taught him it was just like in real life Dirty Dance Where I taught him framing, technique and everything. It was very nice.

Which dance song gave you the most pressure to put your face up?
Derek Hough: according to me sing on trend because it is one of the songs that is very, very different from the original. This is how we enter the entire special section. We wanted to do it in a different way. It wasn’t just “Singing in the Rain”, I also wanted to pay my respects to “Musa Assumption” and “Make Him Laugh” and “Good Morning”. singing in the rain† We just used ‘Singin’ In The Rain’. We didn’t use other songs so we had to find a way to nod to him, but not literally. I was just trying to figure this out, trying to navigate through it and tell a little story about how we got involved in this show.

do you have a favorite one
Derek Hough: i really like it Saturday night fever because it was just fun. I have to dance with Jenna Dewan† It was just fun and perfect. It was just an atmosphere if you want it. My favorite dance styles are tango and stuff like that. Moulin Rouge it was really special. i have to dance with my girlfriend Hayley [Erbert] and also Charity and Ashley, two incredible dancers. we have amber riley he was definitely singing the voice that gave him a completely different feel. It was very nice. And then of course meeting Baz Luhrmann for that. I want to make sure I’m working with this correctly. I think we are doing good things.

He is a legendary director and he really changed the face of movie musicals of that period with that movie.
Derek Hough: He did. Before that, it was called one of his first movies. definitely for dancing† A very wild movie about ballroom dancing and possibly the only movie that includes ballroom dancing, or any form of entertainment. No dear, Dance with the stars comes straight from that movie. The whole concept really came out of that movie. I said I met him and said, “Man, thank you. Thanks to your film, they made this television program that gave us such an important turning point.” This was the wild circular moment.

If you can do it again, is there another cinematic musical you want to cover?
Derek Hough: Too much. Therefore, when considering the title and deciding to give it a name Come in… If it’s okay and people like it, we like to do more. we want to go Continue… Broadway or Come in… more movies There are more. For me, I think, we’ve done more or less low fruit. We made it super iconic. But there are some that are more obscure, and there are also some that I would like to address. There are many more to answer your question and hopefully if this goes well we can.
