Stargirl’s Brec Bassinger opens up about ’emotional roller coaster ride’ ahead of show cancellation

star girl is wrapping up its third season, and star Brec Bassinger recently opened up about the “emotional roller coaster ride” he’s been waiting for to find out what happened to the DC show.

“I actually found out in May star girl should not be picked up for a fourth season,” Bassinger continued The Wayne Ayers Podcast will be released on November 16, according to TV Line. “I’ve actually flown to an event before” star girl when I got the message But that means it wasn’t safe.”

The CW show star hinted that the show was on rocky ground after the cast wrapped filming for season three, which is currently airing on the network through December 7. While there were discussions about buying the show, nothing came of it.

“Over the next few months … this emotional roller coaster of ‘yeah, I think it’s getting picked up,’ or ‘Oh no, we’re taking on another streaming service,'” Bassinger added. “It just became an emotional roller coaster ride.”

Created by Geoff Johns, star girl revolves around high school student Courtney Whitmore, a character Johns created in 1999 and was inspired by his sister, who died in the 1996 TWA Flight 800 explosion.

the cancellation of star girl comes as Nexstar Media Group completes its acquisition of The CW, something Johns anticipated.

star girl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons,” Johns said after the show was canceled. “With all the changes brewing happening on the network, we knew this could be the last season, so we wrote it with that in mind and delivered what I think is the best season of Stargirl yet, with full creative closure.”

star girl airs Wednesdays at 8pm ET on The CW.
