EXCLUSIVE: Guinness World Records’ new production arm, GWR Studios, has entered into a content partnership with WeShort, an on-demand service for premium short films.
As part of the development deal, GWR Studios will work with WeShort to create new original short series to stream on the platform in 2023.
Additionally, WeShort will premiere a ten-part short series Guinness World Records, featuring heartwarming stories behind the record attempts of great people around the world. WeShort bought the non-exclusive rights to Mipcom Cannes last month, where GWR Studios unveiled a slate of three titles.
Launched in 2021, WeShort is now available in more than 100 countries around the world, with content that includes Oscar- and Sundance-winning shorts.
The deal is a first content development partnership for GWR Studios, which Guinness World Records announced last month, led by GWR VP of Television and Digital Karen Gilchrist and Kathryn Hubbard, Head of Content Licensing. “This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the achievements of our record holders, brought to the public by the talent and passion of our dedicated filmmakers,” he said.
Alessandro Loprieno, founder and CEO of WeShort said: “We have a discerning audience that wants to be captivated, entertained and inspired by great stories told in cinematic quality. GWR Studios are masters at showing humanity at its most incredible, and we look forward to celebrating that with our partnership.”
