The movie “Under the Influence” is the highlight of the moment! Directed by David Rosenthal and released on September 9, this feature-length film is currently one of the most watched on the Netflix streaming platform.
Inspired by a true story, the film features Camille Rowe and Sofiane Zermani at the heart of a toxic romance against the backdrop of an apnea contest. Roxanne is a student who will meet a certain Pascal Gauthier. The latter is the world No Limit apnea champion. Pascal will introduce Roxanne to her passion, taking her deep into the water and into a toxic relationship where she also plays the dominant role. The young student will find a talent for No-Limit apnea and get away from college and family before he can start reaping the rewards. There’s something the world champion won’t stand for. Jealous, she begins to belittle him, deceive him, and even humiliate him. Until one last dive.
Better known by the pseudonym Fianso, rapper Sofiane Zermani trained tirelessly for months, accompanied by champion Stéphane Mifsud, world record holder in static apnea, to replace the freediver.
According to the latter, the rapper has come a long way. At C à vous ce soir in France 5, the athlete says: “When I first saw it, the director wanted me to test it. I didn’t know the rapper or the person. We get to my boat, go to the water and there it started at zero”.
Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine then asks him: “What is level zero?” “This is someone who looks at the moss and says to you, ‘Oh, brother, they’re alive, they’re moving.’ He didn’t even have a cousin by marriage who had a double flipper,” he replies, making those interested laugh out loud.
So it’s not a very promising start for the rapper, who, according to Stéphane Mifsud, “will take a Formula 1 class in two months and is taking his first driving lesson today”. However, determined Sofiane Zermani gives everything to be believable in her role. “He’s succeeded in transforming himself,” says Stéphane Mifsud.
Sofiane Zermani also said about this challenging role: “When it comes to physical and underwater preparation, I think I have the best professionals. They made me want to go underwater. People around me wanted to create this character and built it together”.
Inspired by a true story, it tells the story of Audrey Mestre, a French freediver who twice broke the No Limit freediving record for women who died while diving in the Dominican Republic. Four years after her death, Carlos Serra, the ex-partner of Audrey Mestre’s husband and co-organizer of Deadly Descent, published the book The Last Venture. In this book, he evokes the possibility that the young woman was guilty of the death of her husband and trainer, Ferreras.
