I had heard a little bit about it, and it was this topic that motivated me to accept the role. This scandal lasted about twenty years. Due to birth control, children from Reunion were separated from their parents and sent to families in Creuse.

Your character says: “My skin color has never been an issue for me.” Can you say the same?

Definitely. Sometimes it can be a struggle because it still needs to be justified, but it’s not a “problem”. I am one of sixteen actresses who wrote with Aïssa Maïga. black is not my thing (The Threshold) is a collection of testimonies from black women in this setting. We are aware that not much has changed in forty years.
