The Hydra costume was the only option for Penn & Teller, despite the three-headed suit. For the duo, this was the perfect way to get rid of the speakers. “We thought if the two of us went out, we’d get caught right away,” Penn admitted. “So we couldn’t wear one-man suits, so the three of us looked really good. Also, being the dog that guards hell felt like the right position for us. We were very happy. Now, after a combined century of working together in magic, Teller and I hide behind mirrors in tiny rooms, “We spent a tremendous amount of time hiding in rooms and stuff, hiding in boxes. We’re so used to being together and being uncomfortable, so Hydra was perfect for us.”
Even though there were only two in the Hydra costume, sometimes 3 sounds were coming out of the mask. Two of these rumors stemmed from Teller, who is known not to mention it during their performances. Penn excited to hear Teller’s singing voice masked singer phase.

“I have been working with Teller for 47 years. I heard everything. But of course that was our plan. Because over the years my voice has been damaged from Carnival and constant talking… Teller, no one knows how it sounds, so Teller made two voices and I made one,” Penn explained. “I just thought it was great. He said one was what we call ‘Rex’ like Rex Harrison and the other was his real singing voice. I thought he did a great job.
