Premier League: Co-streaming deal between Canal+ and RMC Sport looks buried

The English football championship continues with the poster of Crystal Palace against Arsenal on Friday, 5 August. Although a co-streaming agreement has been in place between Cana+ and RMC Sport for the past three years, now the encrypted channel should be the only channel to offer the Premier League on its antenna.

A change of habit seems to be taking place for English football fans. On Friday, August 5th, the Premier League will be played between Crystal Palace and Arsenal, the first match of the 2022-2023 season. For the last three years, French viewers have been able to watch the English championship matches on Canal+ and also on RMC Sport.

The two channels have indeed reached a co-broadcasting agreement since 2019. In the summer of 2021, Canal+ regained the rights to the Premier League for the period 2022-2025. It remains to be seen whether the encrypted channel will refresh the experience with RMC Sport. A few weeks ago Maxime Saada didn’t seem to be heading in that direction. “This has not been planned so far. However, this requires an agreement between us, as well as permission from the Premier League.“, trusted the head of Canal +. This Thursday, August 4, our colleagues, Set Report that the trail of a new deal almost certainly seems to have cooled. According to the sports newspaper, discussions between the two channels and the Premier League did not lead to a partnership.

Still, RMC seems to be keeping hope of being able to release “a few posters over the weekend” while entrusting it to our colleagues. Not having received any information from Canal+ that the talks will end“.
