EXCLUSIVE: Stacked, Disney Channel’s longest-running live-action series, is coming to an end with the conclusion of its current seventh season. The last part of ten new episodes will be broadcast in 2024.
Production on the seventh season was halted in early May due to the WGA strike. At this point, the filming of 12 episodes of the 20-episode Season 7 has been completed and 8 episodes are still to be filmed. The order has now been increased to 22 episodes and the production of the remaining 10 episodes is currently underway.
Season 7 started on July 23rd and Part 1 with 12 episodes ended on December 1st on Disney Channel. The milestone 150th episode of the series was shown in September.
“With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartfelt storylines, it’s no wonder Stacked has been one of Disney Channel’s longest-running and most successful live-action series,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement to Deadline. “We want to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing great joy and laughter to children over seven incredible seasons.”
While Stacked comes to an end, introducing a new generation of live-action sitcoms to Disney Channel is a priority for Davis’ creative team, led by Charlie Andrews, EVP, Live Action and Unscripted. His recently rented no. 2, veteran kids and family entertainment executive Jenna Boyd is actively developing a series of multi-camera comedies for kids ages 6-11.
Stacked was released in 2015 as a spin-off of the hit Disney Channel series Jessie When siblings Emma (Peyton List), Ravi (Karan Brar) and Zuri (Skai Jackson) Ross left their New York penthouse for more adventures at Camp Kikiwaka, a rustic summer camp in Maine.
The original cast of the series also included Miranda May as enthusiastic camp counselor Lou Hockhauser. May stayed on the series for all seven seasons, while List, Brar and Jackspn left after the third season as the comedy underwent a creative overhaul. Stacked was written by Pamela Eells O’Connell (Jessie, Zack & Cody’s Suite Life), who served as an executive producer for the first three seasons. After the third season, Phil Baker and Erin Dunlap took over as showrunners for the fourth season. Erin Dunlap took over as EP and showrunner for seasons 5, 6 and 7.
Throughout its entire run Stacked is a top performer on linear TV and streaming platforms. Part 1 of Season 7 was the second most-watched live-action series in the summer of 2023, according to Nielsen data, and the top 10 series overall for ages 6-11 when viewed across streaming and linear platforms combined (Live+ 7 for linear, live). for streaming).
