EXCLUSIVE: There have been a number of layoffs at the company’s Banijay subsidiary MythBusters Beyond Productions in Australia and the US

According to Deadline, around two dozen people lost their jobs at production sites in Sydney and LA after the UK center closed a few weeks ago.

The move comes almost exactly a year after Banijay bought decades-old company Beyond International in a deal worth more than $30 million under a so-called Scheme Implementation Deed.

“Banijay can confirm that a number of layoffs have been made across Beyond International’s production footprint,” a spokesperson told Deadline. “The changes are part of the group’s overall reorganization of the business following the acquisition earlier this year. No productions will be affected during the process.”

The layoffs represent a significant portion of Beyond Productions’ overall presence. The company, led by president John Luscombe, was founded in 1984 and launched the long-running Discovery franchise, among other things Mythbusters, ABC/BBC competition format for dogs Poetry perfect, The invisible for National Geographic/Disney+ and Hulu’s Back in the groove. The company has offices in LA and Sydney and there have been layoffs in both countries. According to a report in Broadcast Magazine, five people lost their jobs in September when Banijay closed its UK office.

Its distribution arm, Beyond Rights, which sells tons of factual content, was acquired by Banijay earlier this year and ceased to exist after March.

In Australia, Banijay also runs the production company Endemol Shine Australia, which produces, among others, the following SAS Australia And Bali 2002. The France-based manufacturing company pulled out of the bidding race Squid game: the challenge last week the outfit All3Media, with RedBird IMI now at the helm.
