Sony Pictures Entertainment has partnered with The Guardian

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has partnered with British newspaper The Guardian.

The deal gives SPE exclusive first rights to develop video content across The Guardian’s full range of global journalism. SPE has access to the Guardian’s breaking and developing news, as well as the Guardian archive, which contains 200 years of history in articles, blogs, columns, videos and podcasts. The deal, brokered by Curtis Brown, will be overseen by a new leadership team appointed by SPE and the Guardian.

The Guardian has already signed three option agreements with SPE, which will be announced shortly. The series also has deals with the BBC, Netflix and Sky and won the Oscar for best short documentary two years ago Colette.

The partnership spans SPE’s entire television production groups, from its US scripted and non-fiction television divisions to international productions including The crown Manufacturer left bank, Is dark material Manufacturer Bad Wolf and sports manufacturer Whisper. In addition to television, the deal also includes SPE’s feature film division – labels such as 3000 Pictures, Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures and Screen Gems.
