Scott Pilgrim leaves Creators Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski discuss the possibility of a second season of their animated series.
Although the Netflix show has received critical acclaim, O’Malley and Grabinski are not currently planning a sequel and have made it a one-off show for now.
“Right now it’s running on its own. We loved what we did. We put everything into it. We have no ideas lying on the ground. We used almost all of them,” O’Malley said Rolling stone in an interview. “I never say never, but right now it looks like about fifty different miracles will happen at the same time before another season can happen. So we’ll see.”
O’Malley added, “People always complain about how shows get canceled after one season, so we immediately hedged our bets and tried to set up a standalone season.”
Scott Pilgrim leaves is a spin-off based on the graphic novels by O’Malley. The cast of the live action film Scott makes a pilgrimage against the world Reprised her roles in the animated version with Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, Anna Kendrick and Jason Schwartzman, among others.
Grabinski also echoed O’Malley’s thoughts about not actively working on a new season of the show, adding, “We’re not working on it.” We have no official ideas. We put everything into it and believe it has a great ending that we are proud of. Generally, I don’t make plans. Maybe one day one of us will send each other an idea that’s really great for a second season. But right now my whole mind and my whole heart is in this thing and I’m just putting it out into the world.”
Grabinski also noted that the season is “done” and that everything will be fine if the show ends the way it did.
