The Gilmore Girls Star Lauren Graham was a close friend of Matthew Perry and said he was very happy and content before his untimely death.
“Last year he was so proud of the book he wrote and how many people it touched,” Graham (56) said at an event CBS morning Appearance on Thursday. “It was a performance that gave him a level of happiness that I haven’t seen from him in a long time, so it’s a good memory.”
Perry died unexpectedly at his home in Pacific Palisades on October 28 at the age of 54.
“I’m still in shock,” Graham said. “I mean, it’s a very tragic loss and he’s leaving behind his beautiful work. That’s something to be thankful for, and the book really meant something to him, so it was a very happy year for him.
She fondly remembered her relationship with Perry.
“Nobody made me laugh like that. Just tears that flow. It was a great joy to be with him and to be his friend.”
The two met during the filming of the 2008 film Birds of America, and stayed in touch. In his memoirs Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing, Perry added a photo of them together with the caption, “Me and the beautiful Lauren Graham.” And in a fan Q&A about his show: The special couple Perry called her “one of my favorite people”. There’s good chemistry when we work together and it’s nice to work with a good friend.”
