Ozark Veterinarian John Shiban has been named executive producer and showrunner for NBC Law and Order: Organized Crime. After the writer’s strike ended, Shiban fills the last remaining showrunner slot for Wolf Entertainment & Universal Television’s drama series. Law and Order: Organized Crime will air mid-season.
Shiban replaces Sean Jablonski, who stepped down as showrunner in March, the fourth showrunner to leave the NBC police procedural in just over a year. At the time, SVUDavid Graziano took over directing the remaining three episodes of the third season.
Earlier this month, shortly after the WGA finalized a deal, the writers’ rooms opened for the three films from Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV Chicago Dramas for NBC, three FBI Dramas for CBS and NBC Law and authority And Law and Order: SVU.
With Christopher Meloni Law and Order: Organized Crime The executive producers are Dick Wolf, John Shiban, Paul Cabbad, Meloni, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski.
The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.
This is the first time that veteran showrunner Shiban will serve as showrunner/EP for a series in the Wolf universe.
Shiban served as executive producer of the Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominated Netflix series for the past three seasons Ozark, with Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. He was nominated for both an Emmy and a WGA Award for writing the episode “Boss Fight.”
Shiban previously had an overall deal with Sony Television while serving as showrunner and executive producer of the Hulu series Sleep.
Shiban began his career as a staff writer X files. During his time on the Fox series, he wrote or co-wrote more than twenty episodes, received an Emmy nomination for the script, and was an executive producer at the end of the series’ nine-season run. As a producer, Shiban also received a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for his work on X files.
Shiban joined the AMC Break bad as consulting producer for Season 2. He wrote several episodes of the critically acclaimed series, received a WGA Award nomination for the episode “Phoenix,” and wrote and directed the penultimate episode of Season 3, “Sunset.” His other credits include: Da Vinci’s Demons, Hell on Wheels, Vampire Diaries and the longtime favorite Supernatural.
His directing credits include: You better call Saul, NOS4A2 And Sleep.
