"I have to be some kind of example" : Anne-Claire Coudray explains her report to the TF1 news show

Appointed as the official host of the weekend TF1 newscast in 2015, Anne-Claire Coudray spoke unfiltered about her approach to such a mission in a column for the newly released Télé 7 Jours…

What does it mean to embody TF1 news on a daily basis? Are there things in Hollywood that you are no longer allowed to do by contract as an actress?

No, our only obligation as a presenter is to be on the air on time. Yes, it’s true that I stopped riding scooters and avoided skiing in the winter, but you see no one stopped me from skydiving… We avoid everyone getting on the elevator before the news so we don’t get stuck in it at the last minute. Otherwise, I choose my own clothes. The truth is that I am attached to the way of being an example, to a certain verbal and physical classicism, but that goes along with its informative mission.

You said: “I have beliefs but I hope it doesn’t show up. But your job requires you to have personality. How do we solve this paradox? By lying in a psychiatrist’s chair?

When I started, I thought it would be more complicated. But as I believe Frédéric Taddeï said: “The older I get, the less convictions I have. And he’s right in a way, the older you are the more you tell yourself the truth is more complex than you thought when you were younger. The profession of journalism tells you that everything is subtle, nothing is black or white. He has the incredible virtue of showing that he is not. We allow us to make some repairs on-air during the period.

What surprised you when you started was the congratulations on your diction. Is this still the case?

Yes, it’s true that at the time, I preferred someone to talk to me first about the possible intelligence of the topics I was covering in the news. But in the end I took it as a genuine compliment because being clear and understandable by the audience is ultimately the alpha and omega of my mission.

And why are you being yelled at on a regular basis?

It’s funny, but now that we’re fully committed, we need to physically accept criticism. There is an audience that is angry with my hairstyle. She thinks I have fake hair and recently wrote me a letter. There’s also a woman who hates me wearing black, can’t stand my dresses being too short, etc. But that’s normal, I knock on their door with the news twice a day, at 13.00 and 20.00, and they have a right to have an opinion about the server coming to be buried in their house. Learn to accept it, that’s the game Ah, I shouldn’t tell you, but there’s also a gentleman writing to me because he can’t stand it when I put my left arm too close to my bust. This is a tic I’m trying to master because I talk a lot with my hands…
