The Sussexes are under pressure to find interesting content for Netflix after it was revealed that their deal with Spotify had exploded.
Prince Harry’s possible trip to Africa will inevitably be seen as following in the footsteps of his mother, Princess Diana, who, shortly before her death, went to Africa to campaign against landmines.
It is not yet known what the plot of the documentary will be. A source said: “It’s clear that Harry has a lot of roots in Africa and feels at home there.”Someone inside Netflix confirmed that this was one of many ideas the prince was discussing.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, appeared in “Meghan & Harry,” their first and only documentary for Netflix last year.
Prince Harry, 38, has a lifelong passion for Africa and took Meghan Markle, 41, camping there on one of their first dates.
He also founded a charity in Lesotho, called Sentebale, which means “don’t forget me”, together with Prince Seeiso, the younger brother of the king of the country.
It was her mother who first established a public connection with the continent: a few months before she died in a car accident in Paris, she crossed an active minefield in Huambo, Angola with The Halo Trust.
Harry later followed in his mother’s footsteps by crossing another minefield in Angola in 2019.
Talking about her love for Africa in 2017, she said: “This is where I feel most comfortable: This is where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world. I wish I could have spent more time in Africa.”
This new project comes amid rumors of trouble between Netflix and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
As rumors escalated about the differences between the streaming giant and the Sussex couple, a spokesperson for the publisher said: “We will continue to work together on a series of projects”the one which “Heart of Invictus“follows the games for veterans that Harry founded years ago.
The series will premiere on Netflix in August, and both the Duke and Duchess will appear in the series.
Meghan Markle has hired a new manager to handle her solo projects, especially with big brands.
