Double Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey appeared in a London court on Wednesday, the first day of his trial on multiple sexual assault charges.
The 63-year-old House of Cards actor is facing 12 charges by the prosecutor’s office related to events that took place between 2001 and 2013, involving four people. For most of that period, he was artistic director of the Old Vic theater in London.
Kevin Spacey pleaded not guilty to all these charges at two previous hearings over the past year.
On Wednesday morning at Southwark Crown Court—a venue typically used for high-profile British criminal cases—in a wood-panelled courtroom, Kevin Spacey was sitting in the light, dressed in a dark blue suit, in a large clear box in the center of the room. Blue shirt and pink tie while the jury is sworn in.
Shortly after noon, the judge adjourned the jury until Friday morning, when the prosecution was expected to deliver its keynote address. Kevin Spacey then left the courtroom with a few counselors.
The actor, who starred in “The Seven” or “The Usual Suspects,” faces 12 offenses, including multiple sexual assaults and incitement to sexual activity through involuntary penetration.
The first accusations emerged in 2017, after media coverage of the #MeToo movement. Denying the facts he was accused of in the UK and the United States (he was accused of assault by actor Anthony Rapp and accused of indecent assault and sexual assault on an 18-year-old teenager), he confidently proclaimed several. weeks ago to ZEITmagazin: “It will be insignificant in ten years. My job will keep me alive. And that is what we will remember”.
The London trial should take a month…
