After your success in Les Rivières pourpres (France 2), you are in a detective TV movie again as Camille Delaunay. Doesn’t this type tire you out?
Erika Aziz: I’m used to thrillers on French television. That’s why I’m much more careful about roles. I love the theme of this TV movie because it creates a dialogue between the aristocrats of Bordeaux, whose ancestors made a fortune through the slave trade two centuries ago, and the people who suffer the consequences today. This opens up reflection on a societal issue and concerns my Belgian side as well, because our history with colonization isn’t very bright either.
Your character doesn’t have any Belgian accents, though!
When I hear the French speak, I sound like them, and I get my accent as soon as I arrive in Belgium. (Laughs) As for my character, he’s pretty complicated, because he’s lost, burning with guilt, and wondering if he really killed the bandits…
Do you have any other projects?
I don’t know if the Crimson Rivers series is still going on, but I haven’t been contacted. It’s often said that actresses experience a trough in their forties. I’m 41 and I’m feeling great, so I want to take time to think about where I want to go.
