Roland-Garros (France 3) – Laurent Luyat: "I would like to enjoy a Nadal-Djokovic poster one last time"

The journalist replaced Gérard Holtz near the Philippe-Chatrier court in 2003. The Belgian champion, now a consultant, won his first Roland-Garros for his part.

What does this anniversary mean to you?

Laurent Luyat: When I was a kid, I never missed a game. So being a Roland-Garros host was absolutely incredible. And in twenty years there will be even more.

Justine Henin: On my day of victory, my childhood dream came true. Ten years ago, I came to this stadium with my mother (she died of cancer in 1995, editor’s note) to her, “One day I’ll be there and I’ll win. I paid my respects to him in my post-match speech. One way to open up to him: “You see, you shouldn’t have bothered yourself. It went well. »

That year, France Télévisions launched their interviews on the terrace…

Lawrence: The first guest was Serena Williams. It only took 1 minute 30 straight, but paved the way for the future. Many today come in in a relaxed atmosphere, sometimes to talk about something other than tennis. It’s as if, during the Football World Cup, Denis Brogniart took on Mag on TF1 Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi the next day and Kylian Mbappé the next.

Justin: Behind the champions are the emotions and tests they face in life… People experience the happiness of discovering their human side.

Speaking of which, who impressed you the most?

Lawrence: Rafael Nadal, who tears up when we replay the footage of his victories last year. It’s something we’ve never seen before.

Justin: Seeing Nadal so touched made a big impression on me. He had come to the tournament in great pain (from foot pain, editor’s note) and could not imagine winning his fourteenth time.

Is she going to her fifteenth coronation?

Justin: Will it already be there after their repeated packs? If he does, it’s because he will feel physically that he can go all the way.

Lawrence: I am so lucky to have seen three of the greatest players of all time (including Roger Federer) competing for over a decade now that I want to enjoy a Nadal poster Djokovic one last time during this edition.

A word about the 40th anniversary of Yannick Noah’s victory?

Justin: I was 1 year old but since then I have seen and reviewed images. I am well aware of what you may have represented.

Lawrence: We plan to take him out onto the terrace so he can tell us the whole story: prep, tournament and beyond. Along with John McEnroe, Noah was my idol. In the final against Mats Wilander, I was crazy at home with my family. Especially because at the end of the second set, TF1, the broadcaster at the time, aired an ad followed by a trifecta. When they start broadcasting again, the third set starts at ten minutes. If we did this today, all I would have to do is hang myself on a short boat. (laughs)
