Toubab (Arte) – What does this social comedy about white marriage have in store for us?

Tonight, Arte is betting on the TV movie Toubab, a social comedy that exposes prejudices about homosexuality with pleasant humor.

A Young recidivist originating from Senegal risks deportation if he does not marry. When he can’t find a woman to help him, he asks a friend for help…

In West Africa, tubab is the white man. Babtou is a black man in Germany. A life and a first name in Verlan for this Senegalese born and raised in a Frankfurt city, whose boredom continued to the temptations of the elders and was sentenced to two years in prison for theft. When she leaves, she’s caught for insulting a police officer, she barely has time to celebrate her reunion with her friend Dennis. As a repeat offender, he risks deportation to Senegal, as German law considers him a foreigner. Babtou has only one solution: marriage, even if it’s reasonable. Ace! All his old conquests slam the door in his face. What remains is his friend Dennis, whom he therefore accepts as a husband. It’s the beginning of a hilarious reckless escape to escape immigration controls and the homophobia of the city’s hoodlums. Faced with challenges, these two friendly nickel-plated feet must face their own prejudices… for better or for worse. Carried by two great actors (Julius Nitschkoff and Farba Dieng), this plot is sensitive and funny at times, displaying its ability to warn while entertaining.

Toubab is at Arte on Friday, 19 May at 20:55
