EXCLUSIVE: Studiocanal sold Spanish dramas The promise to Italy and the show was commissioned for a second season.
On the eve of Mip TV, the producer and distributor signed a contract with the Italian Mediaset, which will be broadcast The promise on Canale 5 later that year.
Created by Josep Cister Rubio and broadcast on La1 by TVE in Spain, The promise set at the beginning of the turbulent 20th century amidst the breathtaking landscapes of southern Spain. Jana, a servant who works in Luján’s dilapidated but merciless house, plans revenge for her mother’s murder, but one element she did not expect: she falls in love with Manuel, the count of Luján’s son. TVE just got a second season.
The move comes about 18 months after the acquisition of Mediaset two lives (This is Vidas). Both dramas are produced by Bambú Producciones, supported by Studiocanal, and Studiocanal has been making global purchases since last year’s Mipcom.
“The promise combines high quality production values, beautiful photography, beautiful costumes and a variety of characters that will instantly resonate with international audiences around the world,” says Beatriz Campos, SVP Global Sales and Production Financing of Studiocanal
The promise With Ana Garces, Arturo Sancho (heirs of the land), Jordan Coll (El Secreto de Puente Viejo, Acacia 38), Eva Martin (Amar es para siempre), Manuel Regueiro (acacia 38) Maria Castro (Seis Hermanas) and Antonio Velázquez (Cable girls, Tierra de lobos). It was written by Cister Rubio, Susana Prieto, Ruth García and Carmen Llano.
The deal with Mediaset was brokered by Studiocanal’s sales director Claudia Ramos.
