Netflix has announced that its new eight-episode teen drama El Cuerpo will premiere on November 11, releasing the first images of the series. Although summer has not ended yet, the streaming platform has already started planning its autumn lineup.
Created by Quinn Shephard, who also serves as writer and director, the show centers on a group of spoiled girls at a Catholic school. After a failed initiation rite in a dance group, the students begin experiencing prophetic visions that trigger collective hysteria across their town. Shephard acknowledged that the fiction is her most personal story.
Cast and plot details
The main cast features young actresses Kristina Bogic, Sara Boustany, and Geena Meszaros. They are joined in the main cast by Nnamdi Asomugha, Louisa Krause, Shirley Chen, Jackson Kelly, and Sofia Wylie.
According to Shephard, the production is a racy teen psychodrama with a touch of Catholic horror. She explained that the story explores the emotions of trying to discover who you are, how to love your identity, what belief system you identify with, and the desire to be loved.
Suspense and atmosphere
In statements to Netflix's news portal, Shephard promised many moments of suspense and said she loves the unsettling feeling of growing dread. She expressed hope that people will eat popcorn while watching the series, even when it gets intense.
Shephard also suggested that viewers might light candles and organize a sleepover while watching the show.
