The power is strong with this one. And this, and this.
Cameos abounded in the latest installment in the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, as several guest stars joined the ever-expanding universe of a galaxy far, far away.
Lizzo in particular stole the show playing a noblewoman who befriends Grogu.
She declared her love for “Star Wars” on Instagram today.
“When I was a young girl, my father introduced me to Star Wars as a rite of passage,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram today. “The trilogies are his favorite films and quickly became mine. When Jon Favreau called me and offered the role of The Dutchess, I cried all day and wished my father was still with us because he was so proud. Star Wars was a dream I never thought possible, but thanks to Jon, Bryce and everyone in the galaxy, I am now part of the ever-growing saga of the stars. I am in honorable company and eternally grateful. This is the way…. and may the force be with you.
In the episode’s plot, Lizzo is married to Jack Black and floats on screen in her domed kingdom as the Duchess of the Outer Rim planet Plazir-15. Black plays Captain Bombardier, a former Imperial officer who fell in love with the Duchess when he was exiled to Plazir.
They are soon startled by the appearance of Mando, Grogu and the Mandalorian Upper-Katan Kryze. But Grogu quickly warms to her when the copy of Baby Yoda uses the Force to help Lizzo win a turf match that involves throwing creatures through a series of hoops.
Later in the episode, there is another familiar cameo appearance: Christopher Lloyd (aka Doc Brown from Back to the Future) appears as the planet’s security commissioner, Helgait.
The commissar is tasked with overseeing the repurposed battle droids that have been reduced to servants. But the commissar is loyal to the Sith Count Dooku and tampers with some droids so they don’t work properly. Lizzo discovers the deed and banishes him, but then defeats Grogu to create a happy ending.
