Sara Beth Liebe quits ‘American Idol’ after ‘mom-shaming’ prank as Katy Perry tries to persuade her to stay

Sara Beth Love was startled american idol viewers and the judges on Sunday when she announced she was leaving the reality competition during the first episode of Hollywood Week.

The contestant took to the stage to perform The Police’s “Roxanne” after being coached by Clay Aiken to boost her confidence on stage.

“This event is really great but it will actually be my last performance because my heart is at home so I’m going home to my babies. They need me a little bit,” Liebe said after her performance.

Love then stormed off the stage, leaving judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan confused as to what was going on. The judges asked for a Talk with Love and she was brought back on stage.

“Life is scary,” Perry told Love. “I also know that walking away is easier than being rejected, but I also know that you lose your full potential. I know you love your family because of your children – I know this as a mother. But remember, self-love is as great as mother’s love. Don’t abandon the competition.”

Love just said “thank you” and walked off the stage. Backstage, Love spoke to a producer who told her she didn’t feel like she was winning the competition and that it was best if she went home.

Although unsure of how long she would last in the competition, judges were positive about Liebes Talent and the rest of her group as they advanced her to the next round.

Perry asked Love to stay on stage, saying, “You opened a door you never thought you’d open and you got a yes.” You may get another yes in the future. Don’t give up.”

However, Liebe’s decision had already been made and Perry’s words had no effect on the singing hopes of staying in the league.

“I’m very humbled and grateful and Katy had a lot of nice things to say,” Liebe said backstage. “If my kids were a little bit older … I understand how likely that is, but I still kind of want to go home.”

Love confirmed this departure american idol maybe something she will regret in the future. The former contestant made headlines days earlier when the episode of her audition aired on ABC. Liebe went on to say that she felt shamed by Perry.

When Love auditioned, the judges were surprised she was 25 and said she could pass as 16. However, they were even more shocked when she revealed that she had three babies. Perry rose from her seat and jokingly pretended to fall backwards onto the scorer’s table.

“If Katy is on the table, I’ll probably pass out,” Liebe joked.

“Honey, you’ve been on the table too many times,” Perry joked.

Love then shared her opinion on her TikTok account that the joke “wasn’t super cute,” adding: “It was embarrassing to have it on TV and it hurt and that’s it. But I just wanted this seize the opportunity.” saying that I think women who support and uplift other women are so cool and I think moms are super lame.
