Martin was eliminated from Koh-Lanta by medical decision: "I wish I was fired from the board"

Injured during the comfort test, the former merchant and cheese maker had to abandon the adventure. Interview with Martin.

Merchant, cheese maker, adventurer… Can we say you like new challenges?

Martin: Yes, I am very competitive. Koh-Lanta has been an adventure that has been on my mind for a while. But my wife wasn’t too happy about my participation in this show. And then this year he told me “listen, you’re getting me drunk with your Koh-Lanta, so sign up, if you get offended this time you’ll leave, or I don’t want to hear it again!” .

Why did he resist your participation so much?

Because I am a follower of ‘live well, live in secret’ and I understand it. He was afraid we would find ourselves in the spotlight for a few months.

After your comfort play injury, why did you want to finish the race despite the pain?

I often wondered if I shouldn’t have stopped earlier and if all this shouldn’t have made my condition worse. If I hadn’t strained my wrist at that moment, maybe I could have continued the adventure… I would never have gotten the answer, but I couldn’t stop in the heat of that moment, I had dreamed of it so much. comfort!

How did you experience this elimination by medical decision?

What happened to me? I did not expect Denis’ announcement. I gave my 200% at the events and was stupidly eliminated because of my injury! When we go to Koh-Lanta, we are not ready for it. We dream of being the victim of a strategy, of an immunity collar, or of others… but not of getting out of that path. I don’t wish that for anyone.

How was your medical treatment?

After my elimination, I was evacuated to the infirmary. Before boarding the plane they took me to the hospital for X-rays to check for any fractures because my foot had turned blue! It was only when I returned to Geneva that it was discovered that I had torn my ligament after having an MRI. Thankfully everything is back to normal today, I don’t have any side effects.

What surprised you in the broadcast of the program that you didn’t notice instantly?

I didn’t know I pissed off Grace so much (laughs). We weren’t the best friends in the world during the adventure, but we had very close moments, we talked about our families, I consoled him one day when he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown…

Were you able to talk to him about it after the show?

Yes, and I don’t blame him. With an adventure where you’re nervous and can’t hate a person for anything more than – we’re talking about a verbal tic, there’s worse (laughs) – you have to know how to differentiate from normal life. During the airing of the episode, Grace sent me text messages where she hit me hard to say she was sorry, she didn’t mean a word, and we laughed about it.

What conclusions do you draw from this experience?

It was a crazy adventure, but one that made me feel unfinished. My only regret is this elimination by medical decision, it sucks! I would have preferred to be fired from the board, because according to Koh-Lanta’s logic, either we extinguish your torch or you win, period!
