Since she aired a line from Snoop Dogg earlier this month, there has been no sign of the Mississippi news anchor.
Barbie Bassett has not been on the air for NBC affiliate WLBT since March 8, when her team discussed including the rapper in its wine lineup.
Bassett said, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle” when the idea of a snoop collaboration with a newsroom journalist came up. (“Nizzle” is slang for the N-word.)
Bassett, the station’s chief meteorologist and host, previously sparked controversy with a comment that referred to a black reporter’s “grandma” on air. She later apologized.
According to the Clarion Ledger, she is no longer on the station’s website. And Bassett hasn’t shared anything on Twitter since that same day — her silence, including the weekend when a deadly tornado hit Mississippi and sparked a lot of chatter among meteorologists.
The New York Post reported the story, but did not receive comment from Bassett, WLBT or Snoop Dogg. It quotes the network’s regional vice president, Ted Fortenberry, as saying:
“As you can no doubt understand, WLBT cannot comment on personnel matters.”
