Tyler James Williams stars in the critically acclaimed sitcom Abbot Primary School but this is not the first time he has succeeded. The actor had a successful start on television Everyone hates Chris and remember that a producer on the show doesn’t see a bright future for him.
“‘I’ll never see you as anything else and you’ll probably never work again,'” Williams told GQ about what the producer said.
He added, “I was like, ‘Holy shit, you really just looked at me and said that.’
Being a child actor on a hit sitcom was something “traumatic” for Williams, who grew up in front of television cameras.
“This coincided with the growing adoption of the Internet in the industry,” Williams said. “As I go through the most uncomfortable years of my life, everyone notices. I think my voice was constantly cracking throughout season two and three. I tried to find myself in front of everyone. And everyone had an opinion and got used to expressing their opinion.”
Williams continued, “It was before traumatic. I am still stimulated by things that are part of every childhood. Every time someone walks up to me, no matter how they recognize me, it tells me in that moment that I have been seen. I have to go to work right away because someone is watching.’
The actor says he’s been in therapy and that “hypervigilance” is something he’s been working on, adding, “I’ll listen to any conversation in a room.” I heard my name being called from two, three tables away. I could see how many people stopped me when I entered. And that’s not healthy.” He has recently managed to set boundaries and slow down the pace of his life.
