Like My Son (TF1) – The incredible true story behind the fiction with Tomer Sisley

It is the story of a runaway robber, played by Tomer Sisley, who finds himself surrounded by a boy. A sensitive and true story that needs to be carefully adapted.

“I still have memories of the searches, several chases, and the car crashing into the railing. Trips, left and right, disastrous relocations. And then, moments of family life, trips to the park…“At the end of the line, Ludovic Guittet takes action to tell the story of his “father,” as he puts it in his own words. Since Comme mon fils is adapted from his autobiography written in 2018, horseman (Michel Lafon) with Jean-Marie Drouet, who took him under his wing when he was just a child and with whom he shared three years. “At first she was someone who did not want children, even stood in front of social services, everything is in the trunk. He could have dropped me off at the Assistance Publique for placement or for them to call my mom. But he didn’t.“Radar Films, like my son, is buying the rights to the book, and will adapt it for the big screen in 2019. With the funding delay and the pandemic environment, the project has landed in TF1.

THE BEGINNING OF THE ADVENTURE

From the beginning, Tomer Sisley was associated with adventure. This story is close to his heart. Director Franck Brett, who worked with him on the series Balthazar (TF1), can testify to this. “Tomer calls me at 1 am one night and says, ‘I have a story for you!’ There’s poetry, there’s children, there’s theft… you should read it.” The project promises to be enormous, because it requires rebuilding ’90s France, filming on the Côte d’Azur during summer vacations (a must to employ the young Jordan Delassus playing the little boy), codes of “in-house editing” shamingly to impose less “reliable” actors for supporting roles. And… the magic happens! The director can count on the support of Ludovic Guittet, with whom he is in constant communication. They exchange words, photographs, memories that will feed the fiction.

FOR JEAN-MARIE…

“Tomer kept saying to me, ‘I hope you’re not disappointed with the result, Ludo. But the movie makes up 60% of the book. This respect for our history is truly extraordinary.‘ makes Ludovic Guittet, who participated in the shoot with his daughter, happy for ‘winking’. The incident turned upside down instantly: “It broke my heart. There are so many items and series from our lives that have been copied and pasted. The tattoos Tomer has are replicas of my father.“, he admits. The only regret for everyone: the big-hearted ‘dad’ robber Jean-Marie, played by Tomer, died a year before filming began. He would be very proud because he was so impatient for the movie to be made. Despite the worst nonsense he could do, he showed the best in her.
