“My dad is amazing…my mom and dad…I’m getting emotional,” he gushed. “My father and mother are wonderful people. My father and Jack Pearson were from the same era, both born in the 1940s, both Vietnam veterans.
“And I saw in Jack how I…” Ventimiglia paused as his eyes filled with tears. “It always happens.”
He continued: “I see in Jack how my father was with my sisters and I, just amazing. So thank you.”
The actor said he had his own father in mind when he played Jack in the NBC drama series.
“But what I also saw was an opportunity with the way he was just supposed to be my dad and the big three was basically me,” he added. “So I think I just looked up at my dad. In my trailer I had a picture of my dad and I when I was a little kid and it said, ‘Be a good man. Be a good father.” And I thought, look at it every day and you’re there.
Ventimiglia went on to describe his It’s us Character as “a viable superhero” as “he’s a good example of a man, a good example of a man, a father who had flaws, certainly had his flaws, but he was anybody, anybody , man, woman, child, old.young no matter what background you can aspire to be like him.
