This is terrible news affecting Belgian amateur football. 25-year-old goalkeeper Arne Espeel, who played for Winkel Sport’s B team, died in the middle of a match on Saturday (11 February), Flemish media reported. HLN. The drama took place at the beginning of the second half, during the Second Provincial meeting with SK Westrozebeke (corresponding to an amateur level in Belgium, editor’s note). Winkel Sport B was leading 2-1 and the team accepted the penalty. Arne Espeel stopped this shot on goal before collapsing into a heart attack. Although help quickly arrived on the grass to perform CPR, the actor died in the ambulance that took him to the hospital. As a result of the drama, the referee decided to end the match immediately.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday, February 13 to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
