England – Scotland (France 2) – Yannick Nyanga: "Warms the heart to achieve icons"

The coach of Espoirs du Racing 92, former French international, joins the commentators team for the Six Nations Tournament at France Télévisions.

Do you understand this new role?

Yannick Nyanga: It especially warms my heart to accomplish icons like Pierre Albaladejo, whom I used to listen to. I’m going to do some more vocal and intonation practice. To begin with, the atmosphere of Twickenham should help me.

You will handle meetings other than those of the France team. Still, what about the Blues, who will be fighting against Italy tomorrow?

The French team will undoubtedly use the Tournament to run their final test (from 8 September to 28 October) before the World Cup, even if it means losing a game or two. The aim is to reach the World Cup with many beliefs and alternatives for each position. Unfortunately if Antoine Dupont isn’t available, don’t tell yourself we’re screwed!

You came to France at the age of 2 and a half, you were born in 1983 in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo). Do you still have ties there?

Yes, my uncles and aunts. I also sponsor the Malaika association – “my angel” in Swahili – which pays for one girl per family from the age of 5 to go to school. I would like to establish a school in Africa as well. Sport, an element of modesty, occupied an important place. If you’re not humble on a rugby court, your comrades will let you know right away.
