Peacock Axes ‘Dead Day’ by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson

Peacock is not going to continue Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson’s comic adaptation dead day Deadline confirmed despite direct order.

The streamer ordered the series from Universal Television earlier this year, but is now shopping it elsewhere after it was dropped on Peacock, a source told Deadline.

dead dayA TV adaptation of Ryan Parrott’s comic of the same name, follows an ensemble cast of characters as they navigate the annual “Day of the Dead,” when the dead return for a night to do unfinished business—albeit it for a night returns to the four earth or torments the living.

As Deadline exclusively reported in December, the streamer is adjusting its development strategy for the next phase of its development, with a greater emphasis on drama led by event series, a focus on bingeable comedy and more true crime limited docu-series, and celebrity powered points to the unwritten side. A source close to the production revealed that the change in strategy is the reason for the show’s cancellation.

And while the series developed by Plec Vampire Academy Peacock, which was also canceled earlier this month, is still doing business with Plec. She is currently developing the drama series baron and has already opened a mini writing room; as well as an adaptation of the YA novel Time is running out titled cliffsin addition to several other projects as part of his overall deal with Universal Television.

We’ve heard Peacock also has projects in the pipeline with Williamson following their collaboration on the 2022 slasher film Sick.
