“East New York” Adds Ed Redlich & Thom Sherman as EPs, Director Mo McRae as Supervising Producer

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-winning writer and producer Ed Redlich (Unforgettable), former CBS Entertainment program executive Thom Sherman, and NAACP Image Award-nominated filmmaker Mo McRae (Much of nothing) joined the creative team on the freshman CBS drama series east new york, by Warner Bros. Television.

TV veteran Redlich, who has been on the show as a consulting producer since the pilot, is coming on board full-time as executive producer, working alongside series co-creators, executive producers and co-showrunners William Finkelstein and Mike Flynn.

Sherman will serve as executive producer for his newly formed production company, Play Well Entertainment, as part of the overall deal with CBS Network and CBS Studios. It’s the first project among the sprawling compacts he’s entered into after stepping down as senior executive vice president of programming for CBS Entertainment in November. Sherman was very close to him East New York in his former capacity as CBS executive; He was instrumental in the development of the series and its launch in the fall.

Finkelstein and Flynn executive produce with Redlich, Sherman and Michael M. Robin, who also directs several episodes.

McRae, who started out as an episode director east new york, will serve as executive producer and director of the series and will direct six episodes in the first season of the series. This is his first series production order.

The extension orf East New York‘s production team follows the entire season’s order for the freshman series. It also comes after series executive producers Christine and Mark Holder quit last fall following an investigation by WBTV.

East New York is the #2 new primetime series with 7.09 million viewers per episode in most current ratings and is the #2 entertainment program among African-American viewers.

Amanda Warren plays Regina Haywood, the newly promoted Deputy Superintendent of East New York, an impoverished, working-class neighborhood on the eastern edge of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of agents and detectives, some reluctant to use her creative methods of service and protection amid social unrest and the first seeds of gentrification.

Redlich’s previous TV appearances include Unforgettable, SEAL Teamand Without any trace also for CBS happiness. He received an Outstanding Drama Series Emmy for his work The exercise.

McRae’s feature directorial debut, Much of nothing, had its world premiere at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival and is nominated for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Motion Picture) at the upcoming 2023 NAACP Image Awards. The film was recently acquired by RLJE Films and will now be released in theaters and on demand. 3 February to see.
