The life and death of popular British TV presenter Jill Dando is profiled in the Netflix Doc series

The life and tragic unsolved death of one of Britain’s most popular television presenters, Jill Dando, is being chronicled in a Netflix documentary series.

From Empress Films, the as-yet-untitled show combines archives with new research and interviews to revisit Dando’s life, career legacy and a death that remains one of the most notorious unsolved murders of the 20th century.

In April 1999, Dando was shot dead outside her London home, sparking the biggest ever murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police and the biggest criminal investigation in the country since the Yorkshire Ripper hunt. But with 2,000 potential suspects identified, her killer still hasn’t been found. Dando was an English journalist, television presenter and newsreader who spent most of her career with the BBC.

The documentary will air later this year and is directed by Marcus Plowright (Fred and Rose West: reopened) and executive producer Emma Cooper (The Marilyn Monroe Mystery: The Unheard of Tapes).

The show comes four years after BBC One The murder of Jill Dando and ITVs Jill Dando: The 20 Year Secret both marked the 20th anniversary of their deaths and were seen by a total of around 6.6 million viewers overnight.

It has since become one of Netflix’s most talked about British true crime doc series The disappearance of Madeleine McCann, which was also produced by Cooper while she was at Pulse Films.
