Warner Bros. Discovery appoints Ken Lowe, former CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive, to its board.

Ken Lowe, former CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive, joins the board of directors of Warner Bros. Discovery.

The CEO, who will replace retiring board member Robert R. Bennett pending a shareholder vote on April 2, is a familiar figure to WBD’s management team. Discovery acquired Scripps and its portfolio of lifestyle networks, including HGTV and Food Network, before its merger with WarnerMedia last year. Lowe served on Discovery’s board of directors from 2018 until the closing of the WBD deal last April.

Lowe served as chairman and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive from The EW Scripps Company’s separation in 2008 until its sale to Discovery in 2018. From 2000 to 2008, he was president and CEO of The EW Scripps Company. Prior to 2000, Lowe served there as chairman and CEO of Scripps Networks.

In an SEC filing, WBD said Lowe’s “media industry expertise and experience as a public company executive, as well as his experience with integration and transformation following a major merger, make him a valuable addition to company boards.”

Samuel A. Di Piazza Jr., WBD CEO, said in a press release that Lowe is “a widely admired media visionary with extensive experience building, integrating and growing global media companies. His impressive track record includes his outstanding tenure as a member of the board of directors of Discovery, Inc. during a post-Scripps transformation period. WBD will greatly benefit from his knowledge, background and history of leading global media companies at a time of transition and opportunity.”

Lowe will be elected to the board at WBD’s annual shareholder meeting, to be held in the coming weeks.
