Chris Wallace put Cohen in the hot seat when he arrived The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Star Jen Shah, who was recently sentenced to 6.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to telemarketing fraud.
“You officially said last November that you hope she doesn’t get jail time,” Wallace said. “And the question I have is, ‘Why would you take her side against the thousands of people she’s cheated on, many of them elderly?’
Cohen looked worried and said: “I guess I was hoping she was actually innocent. I wouldn’t…”
Wallace intervened and called them back Watch what’s happening live host to whom Shah had already pleaded guilty.
“It was before she pleaded guilty, I mean I said I would think about it,” Cohen said, before Wallace corrected him by saying, “No, I think it was after.”
Stunned, Cohen just said, “Oh, really? Oh God.” He then went on to explain that he didn’t know the context when he said it, but he believes it was when fans were asking what was going to happen to Shah RHOSLC.
The Bravo star agreed with Wallace that Shah should go to prison, arguing that “sometimes you meet someone and you start to like them, you hope they’re not guilty of something terrible.”
Wallace showed clips of some of the most memorable scenes The Real Housewives over the years and then asked Cohen, “Are you even ashamed of what you do?”
“No, I’m really not because it makes so many people happy,” Cohen said defensively of the franchise.
“It can be very confrontational, it can be a bit hard to swallow sometimes,” he said in defense of the shows he produces. “But I think the really big moments are also about being a wife, mother, sister, friend and so much more. So yes, it’s already there [fights] and then there is much more.”
