EXCLUSIVE: In the company’s recent realignment, Amazon created a single unit for third-party home device business development and partner marketing for Prime Video, MGM+ and Freevee. These operations are led by industry veteran Andrew Bennett.
Having led Prime Video’s home device partnerships since 2017, Bennett is now VP and head of global video partnerships for Prime Video, MGM+ (referred to this month as Epix) and Freevee. He now reports to Kelly Day, VP of International at Prime Video, who joined the company last year from Paramount Global.
The move follows last fall’s redesign overseen by Mike Hopkins, SVP of Prime Video and Amazon Studios, who also hired studio boss Jennifer Salke to lead MGM while expanding the responsibilities of MGM COO Chris Brearton. Amazon acquired MGM in 2021 for $8.45 billion.
The consolidation under Bennett allows the video business to leverage three different streaming video services in conversations with more than 200 living room device partners. Power and living room technology are hot topics this week at CES in Las Vegas. Like many other technology players, Amazon is present at the annual show, which returned this year with a more robust in-person event after the Covid-modified 2021 and 22 editions.
Amazon has been streaming video for more than a decade, but the company has made significant strides in its 2022 effort. Prime Video became the exclusive home of NFL Thursday Night Football when an 11-year rights deal went into effect along with an expensive bet on Under the Ring’s spell is starting to pay off in terms of viewership and critical acclaim. Freevee, the twice-rebranded ad-free service, has continued to expand its presence with a more widespread standalone app and a rapidly expanding offering of originals and exclusives.
