Following news of the death of Barbara Walters, formerly The view Co-hosts such as Star Jones, Rosie Perez, Michelle Collins and Meghan McCain, as well as celebrities and colleagues, shared moving messages.
Star Jones, one of the ABC show’s original co-hosts said“I owe Barbara Walters more than I could ever repay. Rest in peace sister…mother…friend…colleague…mentor.”
Oprah Winfrey posted a photo with Walters on Instagram and captioned it, “I wouldn’t be without Barbara Walters — or any other woman you see on the evening, morning, and daytime news.” She was indeed a trailblazer. I keep thinking about my very first TV audition with her. Grateful that she was such a powerful and graceful role model. Grateful to know her. Grateful that I followed in her light.”
Rosie Perez worked during the day and with Walters went to twitter to share their thoughts.
“A wonderful woman. Big loss. Shattering the glass ceiling is a gross understatement. She destroyed it. Paved the way for so many,” the former co-host said. “I’m very proud/humbled to have her know and work with. Condolences to her loved ones and the entire family @TheView.”
Michelle Collins, who co-hosted the show for a 2015-2016 season, shared an anecdote.
“One of the first rites of passage for becoming a host at @TheView was having lunch with Barbara Walters,” Collins said tweeted. “I’ve only been so nervous a few times in my life. She was an absolute pioneer, class, elegance, cleverness that is increasingly difficult to find. I will always be grateful. REST IN PEACE.”
Meghan McCain, who co-hosted from 2017 to 2021, tweeted: “Barbara Walters will always be known as a trailblazer. Her persistent questions and welcoming demeanor made her a household name and a leading figure in American journalism. your creation of The view is something for which I will always be grateful. Rest in peace you will forever be an icon,” she tweeted.
