PBS returns six series in 2023 and presents two historical dramas, including the debut of tom jones on Masterpiece, based on the 1749 novel The story of Tom Jones, a foundling.
“PBS continues to bring drama that appeals to the whole family, from mysteries like Miss Scarlet and the Duke on masterpiece u Wiener blood to coming of age stories like sand tone on masterpiece u La Otra Mirada. This season’s lineup of period dramas is the most comprehensive yet, with hours of compelling storytelling from January through May,” said Maria Bruno Ruiz, vice president of programming at PBS. “Not only do we have returning seasons of our most anticipated dramas, but we also have two new premieres that audiences are sure to fall in love with: Tom Jones on Masterpiece and Marie Antoinette. Both bring incredible new talent to PBS. I can’t wait for the audience to watch!”

Season 2 of La Otra Mirada Premieres Thursday, Jan. 5-Feb. 23. Teresa returns to school after being found not guilty of her father’s murder. However, her battle is far from over, as she must confront new mysteries and new threats to the Academy. By Walter Presents, in Spanish with English subtitles.
Season 3 of Miss Scarlet and the Duke runs from January 8 to February. 12:00 PM ET. Eliza becomes embroiled in new and surprising mysteries ranging from a missing wizard to police corruption as she struggles to build her detective agency. Increasing competition from a rival agency creates new problems, and all the while she struggles with her relationship with Detective Inspector William Wellington, the Duke. But on that front she has a new challenge: a beautiful woman from her youth has caught the Duke’s attention.
All creatures, great and small is back to the beginning of season 3 January 8th and runs through February 19th at 9pm ET. James Herriot and his crew deal with sick animals, eccentric farmers, courtship and strict government contracts in a new season of the series that has won the hearts of millions of fans. Change is the order of the day as professional and emotional relationships mature in rural Yorkshire veterinary practice, immortalized by author James Herriot’s charming stories. Themes for Season 3 include new partnerships, ghosts from the past and doing your duty – and of course, doing good to the animals.
Season 3 of Wiener blood returns on January 8th and runs through February 12th at 10pm ET. It takes place in 19th-century Vienna – a stronghold of philosophy, science and art, where cultures and ideas collide in the city’s grand cafes and opera houses. In Season 3, Max and Oskar are once again plunged into the darker underbelly of Viennese society, with episodes set in a luxury fashion house, the Chinese antique trade and the burgeoning world of film.
Call the midwife will return for Season 12 on March 19 and run through May 7 at 8:00 PM ET. It’s 1968 and the nuns and nurses from Nonnatus Huis return to do more midwifery and family life. The midwives welcome a new nun, Sister Veronica, and tensions rise in Poplar after the fallout from Enoch Powell’s “Rivers of Blood” speech.
Season 3 of sand tone begins March 19 and runs through April 23 at 9:00 PM ET. The third and final season returns viewers to the seaside town of Sanditon at the end of Charlotte and Georgiana’s stories. Drama, laughter and romance await the cast of new and returning characters.
Marie Antoinette starting Sundays March 19th and running through May 7th at 10pm ET. Marie Antoinette (Emilia School, Berlin dance school) is still a teenager when she leaves Austria to marry the Dauphin of France (Louis Cunningham, Bridgeton). Arriving at Versailles, she must obey the many and complex rules of the French court. The princess soon suffers from not being able to live her life the way she wants, while her mother, the Empress of Austria (Tony nominee Marthe Keller), keeps urging her to continue the Bourbon line and with it the alliance between the two countries to break fence. However, given Louis’ avoidant and lonely nature, the mission turns out to be more complicated than expected.
tom jones Premiere in the spring. One of the greatest novels in the English language comes to Masterpiece in a four-part adaptation of Henry Fielding’s novel tom jones, which gives a new twist to the story of a young man’s love for a rich heiress. Solly McLeod plays Tom, Sophie Wilde plays the heroine Sophia and Hannah Waddingham plays the legendary seductress Lady Bellaston. The wonderful cast also includes James Fleet, Shirley Henderson, Alun Armstrong, Pearl Mackie and a host of other talent who bring mid-18th century England to life with all its passion and prejudice, luxury and loose morals.
